Thomas Davis GAC Newry benefits from new Solar PV through Action Renewables Support Programme
23/02/2026
Thomas Davis GAC in Newry is the latest community organisation to benefit from a fully funded renewable energy system through the Action Renewables Solar PV Support Programme. The club has received a 20kW solar PV installation, helping to significantly reduce electricity costs while supporting long-term sustainability.
The installation—provided at no cost to the club—will generate clean, renewable electricity on site, reducing reliance on grid energy and cutting carbon emissions. By producing their own renewable power, the club can lower operating expenses and improve financial resilience at a time of rising energy prices.
The Solar PV Programme, operated by the charity Action Renewables, provides community, voluntary and non-profit organisations with fully funded renewable energy systems. By lowering energy bills, the programme enables groups to redirect savings back into essential services, community activities and grassroots initiatives.
Lana Moore, Head of Charity Delivery for Action Renewables said:
“We are delighted to support Thomas Davis GAC through our Solar PV Programme. Sports clubs are at the heart of local communities, and providing clean energy solutions helps them reduce running costs while contributing to Northern Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon future.”
Steven Trainor from Thomas Davis GAC welcomed the installation, noting the positive impact it will have on the club’s long-term sustainability.
“We are delighted to have benefitted from the support of Action Renewables through their Charitable Solar PV Support Programme. As a community club at the heart of Newry, we are committed to becoming more sustainable and reducing our environmental impact. The installation of solar panels is an important step in lowering the club’s carbon footprint while also helping to reduce our ongoing energy costs.
We are very pleased with the installation process and the performance of the system so far. We would like to thank the Action Renewables team for their guidance and support throughout the project, and we look forward to seeing the long-term benefits for both the club and our community.”
The installation at Thomas Davis GAC is one of several community-focused renewable projects being delivered across Northern Ireland through Action Renewables. The organisation continues to encourage eligible charities and community groups to explore the benefits of renewable energy and apply for future rounds of the programme.
