At Action Renewables, inclusion and accessibility are at the heart of how we work. That’s why we are proud to announce that we are now a JAM Friendly Organisation, supporting the use of the JAM Card across our services and workplace.
What is the JAM Card?
The JAM Card (which stands for Just A Minute) is a simple yet powerful communication tool designed for people with learning difficulties, autism, mental health conditions, or communication barriers. It allows individuals to discreetly let others know that they may need a little extra time, patience, or understanding.
Rather than having to explain their needs verbally, cardholders can simply show their JAM Card, making everyday interactions less stressful and more accessible. People with a communication barrier can speak to our energy team, say they are a JAM Card user over the phone, letting us know they may need ‘Just A Minute’ of patience and time.
Why JAM Matters
Many people face invisible barriers in daily life — from struggling to process information quickly, to feeling anxious in busy environments. The JAM Card helps create a culture where:
- People feel seen and understood
- Communication is more inclusive
- Staff are empowered to respond with empathy and patience
It’s a small gesture that can make a very big difference.
As a JAM Friendly Organisation, Action Renewables is committed to ensuring that everyone who interacts with us — whether staff, business partners, or the public — feels respected, supported, and included.
To achieve this, Action Renewables staff have completed the official JAM training, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to recognise the JAM Card and respond appropriately. Our energy experts are JAM Card trained (giving you ‘just a minute’ longer). We will take extra time on a call for customers who need a slower pace.
The training was delivered through the excellent online programme provided by NOW Group, a Belfast-based social enterprise that champions inclusion and employability for people with disabilities and barriers to work.
Becoming JAM Friendly is more than a badge — it’s a commitment to inclusive practice. It aligns strongly with our organisational values around social impact, fairness, and community wellbeing.
By embracing the JAM Card, we are helping to:
- Reduce anxiety and stress for service users
- Improve communication across all interactions
- Foster a workplace culture based on understanding and respect
Our Commitment
At Action Renewables, we believe that accessibility should be built into everything we do — not added as an afterthought. Becoming JAM Friendly is another step towards creating an organisation where everyone has the time, space, and support they need to thrive.
We are proud to be a part of the JAM Card initiative and the vital work of the NOW Group, in making Northern Ireland a more inclusive place for all.
