Action Renewables and Queen’s University Belfast launch new scholarship for MSc in Leadership for Sustainable Development
Belfast, Northern Ireland – 3 August 2026
Action Renewables, in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast, is delighted to announce the launch of a new scholarship that will provide full sponsorship for one student to undertake the MSc in Leadership for Sustainable Development.
The new scholarship reflects a shared commitment by Queen’s University Belfast and Action Renewables to support the development of future leaders who can drive the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable energy future across Northern Ireland and beyond.
The Action Renewables Energy Leadership Scholarship will cover tuition fees and provide financial support for a high-achieving student enrolling on the MSc programme, which equips graduates with the knowledge and leadership skills required to address the complex energy, climate and sustainability challenges facing society today.
The MSc in Energy Leadership for Sustainable Development brings together expertise in renewable energy, energy policy, sustainability, innovation, business strategy and leadership, preparing students to make a meaningful impact in industry, government, communities and the wider sustainability sector.
Professor Adenuga, Programme Director, at Queen’s University Belfast, said:
“We are sincerely grateful to Action Renewables for their generous support in establishing the Action Renewables Scholarship in Energy Leadership for Sustainable Development. This scholarship represents a shared commitment to developing the next generation of sustainability leaders by enabling talented students to access our MSc Leadership for Sustainable Development programme. Students will gain the leadership skills, knowledge and practical experience needed to drive the energy transition and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
Terry Waugh, CEO at Action Renewables, added:
“Launching this new Queen’s University scholarship is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of. After celebrating 23 years of Action Renewables, we wanted to invest in something that would create lasting impact — supporting climate education and empowering future leaders in the sector. Contributing to the development of students undertaking this master’s degree feels like a meaningful way to shape the next chapter of our charity’s work.”
Applications for the scholarship will be open to students applying for the MSc programme for the 2026/27 academic year. Candidates will be assessed on academic merit, leadership potential and their commitment to advancing sustainable development and the transition to clean energy.
The partnership highlights the growing collaboration between academia and the renewable energy sector to address the urgent need for skilled professionals capable of leading transformational change in energy systems, policy and practice.
