WARES - Action Renewables


WARES will provide a service that creates innovative renewable energy solutions for remote areas:

  • By finding unused or hidden opportunities for renewable energy generation within the activities and property of the water industry sector
  • By establishing partnerships between the water industry and its neighbouring communities to exploit this potential
  • By sourcing the capital investment required to commercialise these opportunities from the private sector
  • By creating Public Private Partnerships to implement the business opportunity


Thereby providing the benefits of:-

  • Increased renewable energy generation
  • Reduced energy costs for the water sector
  • Enterprise and job creation for the local community
  • Renewable energy for the local community
  • A financial return to increase the prosperity of the local community by re-investment in other social projects.


The project is split into the following Work Packages:
WP 1:  Management and Coordination
WP 2:  Service Design.  The creation of an effective operational service model, including training provision.
WP 3:  Pilot Site Identification and Planning. 9 pilots to be selected on the basis of feasibility and affordability.  This process will need to include community engagement, as well as RES selection and technology identification.  Planning processes will be required. These will include permitting, i.e. planning permissions; and business planning.
WP 4:  Implementation.  Set up, manage, maintain and monitor the 9 pilot projects, including training delivery.
WP 5:  Outreach and Policy.  This will identify the social returns and include political engagement for purposes of recommending appropriate policy refinement.
